HODDYWELL HISTORY

Hoddywell Archery Park started as an idea by two target archers (Ernst 'Ernie' Kaltenbrunner and Ian Camm) at the Moorabbin Archery Club in Victoria. During this time the founders of the Archery Park already had a small archery business called Australian Archery Accessories, located in a small flat in Melbourne's outer suburbs.

The idea that the Archery Park founders had was that the general public could come and enjoy a round of archery, without the expense of buying their own archery equipment or joining a club.

70 acres of land was purchased in Western Australia (due to low prices) in the Shire of Toodyay, 85km from Perth. The name 'Hoddywell' came from the name of the locality where the Archery Park was located 'Hoddy's Well'. To keep a connection with the local area the two names 'Hoddy' and 'Well' were combined to 'Hoddywell' hence the name 'Hoddywell Archery'. Later to generate more public interest the word 'Park' was added to the name. So Australia's first Archery Park came into being, Hoddywell Archery Park.

As the founders were club members at the Moorabbin Archery Club in Victoria, they made an archery club of their own called Hoddywell Archery Club, also known as the Hoddywell Archer's. Although the club was very enjoyable and had many members, it didn't make any money and was dissolved in the late 1990's and early 2000's. The last club archery competitions were held in 2005 and 2006.

Hoddywell Archery Park was first registered as a business in 1978, during this time the nearest town to the Archery Park, Toodyay, was a small farming community. Tourism to Toodyay was low during this time and Hoddywell Archery Park is proud to be a key factor that increased tourism to the town and helped made the small country town into the fast growing community it is today.

Hoddywell Archery Park has had a rough past, during the first 25 years of the Archery Park's life, the business was owned by business partners and was up for sale in the early 2000's. Luckily the Archery Park was bought by one of the original founders (Ernie) and has become Australia's favourite archery supplier and Australia's first Public Archery Park.
